For parents and teachers
For grown-ups
Jam Map is a free freeze-dance game for kids 3 to 7. Each episode runs about 7 minutes (or 4 in Quick mode). The freezes land at different times on every play, so kids can't memorize it.
Getting set up
- Clear some floor space. Arms-out-wide room for each dancer. Bare feet or sneakers are safer than socks on smooth floors.
- Turn the sound up. The music stopping is the cue to freeze.
- Make it big. Cast the tab to a TV, use AirPlay, or plug in a laptop. Press F for fullscreen.
- Pick a length. Full is about 7 minutes. Quick is about 4.
- Voice on or off. With voice off, read the captions yourself and be the host.
Handy controls
- Space pauses and resumes.
- → skips to the next part.
- F goes fullscreen.
- H hides the buttons.
- Switching tabs pauses the game automatically.
- On a phone or tablet, use "Add to Home Screen." After the first visit it also works offline.
What kids practice
- Listening and stopping on cue. Freezing when the music stops, and ignoring bubble tricks when it doesn't.
- Balance. One-foot freezes held for a five-count.
- Left and right. Captain Crab's red and blue claws turn sides into colors.
- Following a sequence. The Reef Routine strings all the moves together.
- Calming down. Every episode ends slow, with three bubble breaths.
In the classroom
- Works as a brain break on a projector or smartboard. No logins, no student accounts.
- Quick mode fits a four-minute transition.
- Spins are slow on purpose. Remind the class to keep arms-length apart.
- Every replay is different, so it holds up to repeat plays.
